Gillian's Marathon Challenge - Part 2

Gillian Allan
Apr 20, 2017

After 6 months of training, 125 workouts and over 530 miles covered, our Glasgow Director, Gillian, is packing her bags tomorrow and heading down to London to take part in the Marathon. The race starts at 10am on Sunday in Greenwich Park, and luckily the first 10 miles provide her with a number of ‘run by’ site visit opportunities with our Self Storage Client Shurgard.

First up is our Woolwich building. Past the ‘Plumstead Radical Club’ you hear the Charlton fans singing, “it’s big, it’s red, it’s a lovely Storage Shed ohh Woolwich, oohhh Woolwich”. It also won the prize for most Innovative Design at the Self-Storage Awards 2016.

Then with any luck she will catch a glimpse of the London City Airport site across the water - Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s a 6 storey extension!

Our Greenwich Seewoo building is currently on site due for completion at the end of this year. ‘SeeWoo Jimmy’ they say…you couldn’t miss it, at 120,000ft square feet, it’s our biggest yet!

And finally she’ll swing by the Deptford unit with a basement big enough to swallow up all 40,000 marathon runners who could complete the race in just 146 laps of its perimeter - before easing her way across the Thames and onto the delights of the Docklands, the Embankment and finally the Mall.

In fact it’s a real Shurgard Team effort with her colleagues, Craig Simpson and Dougie Allan kindly combining their London site meetings this week, with collecting the running numbers and kit bags for Gillian and her running buddy Shirley, to avoid any last minute hitches in their fundraising. They are raising money for The MS Society, and thanks to all the amazing support so far, they have almost reached an incredible £3000.

If you’d like to help Gillian smash that target, please visit her Justgiving page to read her story and donate if you can. We wish the girls all the best for their big day.

Thank you.
