This Bar / Restaurant destination was the first venture for the Client into the new-build process. After developing the Brief with the Client we challenged the overall vision and structured the project concept around the creation of a site responsive destination that was architecturally rich yet retained a heritage to the Scottish vernacular. The result was a highly successful building and highly successful and profitable product that continues to trade well.
The development is a complex of three adjoined buildings, one timber clad and the other two in traditional Scottish white harling. The fragmentation of the buildings both breaks down the scale of the development and encloses outside ‘rooms’. The sudden opening of views, flooding of light and connection between spaces is designed to provide drama and a sense of place.
