Phase 1 at Almondvale South Retail Park comprised the erection of an anchor unit of circa 90,000sqft for Homebase. Phase 2 continued the development in a retail terrace with a 32,000sqft TRU unit, two 10,000sqft units and two standalone restaurant units. Construction costs for the built units was £12m.
The palette is of naturally finished, textured, materials to both accentuate the tenant branding and humanize the building type. Fluted timber columns of untreated Douglas fir form a colonnade along the terrace and a feature entrance to Unit 1. The use of timber is continued in the sculpted geometry of what would otherwise have been a blank gable end onto a main thoroughfare.
Practice principals led this project prior to the formation of Threesixty Architecture.
